Glock riffle4/2/2023 Specifically, the following features appear to match known Glock rifle patents: The leaked photos have been analyzed, and many knowledgeable folks believe them to be genuine. Perhaps they knew a major AR contract was coming up, since the British AIWS specifications call for “A 5.56mm Armalite Rifle (AR) platform.” The Glock Rifle Looks Real Some questioned why Glock would make an AR-15 instead of something more innovative. Glock rifle rumors have been around for a while, but patent drawings surfaced last year, seemingly confirming those rumors. Is this a for real Glock AR-15? Many folks think so. It seems the Austrian gunmaker has submitted a prototype for the new British Special Operations Brigade Alternate Individual Weapon System (AIWS) trials, along with many other companies. That would be very interesting - but the further they stray from the AR15 format, the less likely it is to be adopted. The interwebs have exploded the last couple of days over leaked photos of a new Glock AR-15 rifle. The possible exception would be if they attempt to make a mostly polymer or extruded aluminum rifle. Assembly requires much more skill then a pistol Almost whole of AR15 is machined, or cast With a rifle, especially an AR15 derived rifle, this whole DFM Glock ethos would not be present. The end result is that a Glock cost ~$75 to manufacture in 2005, allowing for a massive profit margin, as well as the ability to aggressively lower prices when chasing LEO/Mil contracts. Awesome for the user - but far more awesome from a mass assembly standpoint. Glocks can be assembled entirely with a metal punch. The reason the slide is squared off? Minimized machining time, by keeping the dimensions as close to bar stock as possible. I believe for the Gen 5, the only parts that are actually machined are the barrel and the slide. The majority of the gun is made to be as cheap and easy to build as possible: plastic injection moulding, stamped steel, MIM. It requires the least machining time of any other handgun design, and it requires the least assembly time or skill to assemble correctly. When one looks at the Glock not as a pistol, but as a product, its remarkable. The acronym DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) is sometimes used interchangeably with DFM. This is done by simplifying, optimizing and refining the product design. Namely, the Glock is a master class product for the field of DFM- Design for Manufacturing:ĭesign for Manufacturing (DFM) is the process of designing parts, components or products for ease of manufacturing with an end goal of making a better product at a lower cost. Glock came out with like 7 different magazine fixes and a couple of recoil springs and still didn’t get em like run like they should.Ī Glock carbine is intereting, but seems like it would violate Glocks basic design and business model. Put a light on a Gen 3 or 4 22 or 23 and see how they fare long term. It’s barely running and a failure to eject waiting to happen at a bad time. The extractor won’t pull the case back to the ejector and it bounces off the top round of the mag. That weak, erratic ejection is not a shooter or ammo problem. Take any late Gen3 or Gen4 or early Gen5 Glock and see where the brass ejects. You can line up all the current crop of plastic duty guns and let a bunch of rookie shooters, especially females shoot them, and watch which ones choke the most. It’s not trolling, it’s pointing out a fact that nobody believes because Glock Perfection marketing works. ![]() I would run fast and far from any other type of gun they made. I’ll start out by saying the only handguns I own are Glock, but they’re hardly remarkable, barely reliable, and they’ve never been anything other than that.
